Love history? Help care for a 160-year-old cottage right here in Morrinsville!
Morrinsville Museum is looking for volunteers to join us as Historical Cottage Cleaners. This is a hands-on role where you’ll help keep our charming, historic cottage looking its best while preserving its stories for future generations.

How you can help::

  • Keeping the cottage tidy: Dusting, cleaning, and making sure furniture, floors, walls, and other surfaces look cared for.
  • Looking after our treasures: Helping to gently clean and care for artifacts under the guidance of our Curator, following guidelines and reporting any damage or wear.
  • Preserving our history: Using safe cleaning products and following simple museum routines on temperature, humidity, and pest control to keep the cottage and its contents in great shape.

Requirements:

  • A love for history:You care about preserving our local heritage and want to help keep it alive.
  • A keen eye for detail: Whether you’ve cleaned or cared for delicate items before or not, you notice the little things and handle them with care.
  • Comfort with light physical tasks: You’ll be bending, reaching, and lifting as part of keeping the cottage looking its best.
  • Dependable and friendly: We value volunteers who show up, communicate well, and work as part of the team.
  • Eager to learn: No experience with artifacts? No problem! We’ll guide you and provide the training you need to do the role safely and confidently.
  • Experience in a historic setting is a bonus.

Time commitment:

  • Museum opening hours: The museum is open five days a week from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, and on Sundays from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
  • Flexible, project-based role: This is a project-based volunteer position, and we’ll work with you to create a schedule that fits both the museum’s needs and your availability.
