Volunteer Driver – Helping People Get to Medical Appointments
We’re looking for friendly people who don’t mind being behind the wheel and enjoy a good chat. As a volunteer driver, you’ll be helping folks who often struggle to get to their medical appointments on their own—maybe because they’re older, have mobility challenges, or simply don’t have family or friends nearby.
Your role on the road
- Picking people up from their homes and driving them to their appointments.
- Getting them back home safely afterwards.
- Helping with timing so everyone makes it to their appointments on time.
- Giving the car or van a quick tidy at the end of the trip.
Where you’ll be going
- Most trips are to Waikato Hospital or specialist clinics in Hamilton, though sometimes it’s just a local doctor’s appointment.
You won’t be on your own:
There’s usually another volunteer riding along with you to give a hand.
Why it matters:
For the people you drive, getting to these appointments isn’t always easy. You’ll be giving them peace of mind, making sure they get the care they need, and offering a bit of company along the way. And for you, it’s a chance to meet interesting people, hear their stories, and feel the difference your time makes in someone’s day. You’ll also be part of a volunteer team that’s all about looking out for each other and supporting the community.
