Become a volunteer home tutor and help provide free English lessons to former refugees and migrants, empowering them to navigate daily life in New Zealand and engage in Kiwi culture. Learners are adults aged 30-65, and lessons are delivered one-on-one in their homes once a week. Volunteers must have personal transport to travel around Hamilton. Lessons typically last 1–2 hours, and online classes may occasionally be an option.
Training Details – Introductory Training:
- 20 hours of training sessions and 14 hours of independent study.
- Delivered over 2.5 days across three consecutive weeks.
- A minimum of 80% attendance is required to complete the training.
Practical Experience:
- 12 one-to-one teaching sessions. The sessions are once a week.
- Total commitment: 20–26 hours for preparation, tutoring, and evaluation.

Cost:
- $40 fee for printing and training materials.
Certification: Receive an NZQA-approved certificate upon completing the course requirements.
